Week 5 Theme 13 Infrared

I do not own an infrared camera, but infrared-like images can be achieved via post processing.  Infrared images have been described as presenting false color or, as in the case of black & white the images present a dreamlike quality.

I used two distinct post-processing techniques to create these images.  The color image was produced using the NIK infrared filter while the B&W was the result of running the photo through Picasa.  I will present both images in this blog posting.

Week 4 Theme 32 Signage

In my mind, a Scat Transfer Station can only refer to a location where the scat is transferred.  In other words, where the SCAT hits the fan.  It is no wonder that we are warned to “Do Not Enter”.

Definitions

Scat – an animal fecal dropping (look it up)

Scatology – the biologically oriented study of excrement (as for taxonomic purposes or for the determination of diet)

This sign appeals to my 5th grade humor.  Scat being transferred by hitting the fan?  How else would one transfer scat?  Why would one want to transfer scat?

Ah, the profound questions of everyday life!

This is a photo of a sign at the downtown Sarasota, FL bus station, where SCAT actually refers to Sarasota County Area Transit.  I guess they did not have anyone on staff who could have steered them away from that name!?  I mean, I would not want to ride on a Doo Doo bus.  Would you?  I often wonder how many of their riders are aware of the term?

Week 3 Theme 37 Stop Action

What better place to try to ‘stop’ the action than the Bradenton Skate Park?  These young, enthusiastic skate boarders were literally flying through the air at some point in their routines.  What, at first glance, looked like a chaotic crisscrossing of skaters was, in fact, more of a choreographed ballet.  There were kids holding boards in the ready position with their feet while waiting for others to finish their routine before undertaking their own maneuvers.  There was the occasional courtesy shouting of, “BOARD” when one escaped its rider, warning those on the court of the possible danger.

Week 2 Theme 44 Topless

I did not think I would be able to tackle this theme so soon, or perhaps at all, but something happened today that changed that.  I have therefore, decided to take on the dreaded Topless theme head-on and allow myself to move onward toward other, more artistic endeavors.

In Tampa this afternoon, I witnessed a beautiful young mother holding an infant to her breast and I was moved by the peace and beauty of the scene.  Mom handled her baby in the most tender and loving way, demonstrating all the love and tenderness we have come to associate with motherhood.  Through it all, both mother and infant were totally oblivious of passersby and clung lovingly to each other while they followed nature’s way.

Week 1 Theme 36 Stitched Together

Sometimes you have to search for images to fit a theme and sometimes they shout out to you.  Or as in this case, it whispered.  I saw the lower part of this wonderful tattoo just under the sleeve of the receptionist at my physician’s office.  She did not find it strange for a strange old man to be asking her about her tattoo, in fact, she was happy to talk about it.

Most people with tattoos, I have learned, love to talk about their ink.  The only problem is that tattoos are contextual and do not translate well into one photograph, but alas that is my directive.

In this blog posting, I present to you an image of a fictional woman, ‘STITCTHED TOGETHER’ permanently emblazoned on the arm of an actual young woman.  The tattoo, is very well done; all its lines are sharp and clear, and the blue eyes and blue head jewels all contribute to this wonderful piece of art.Corpse Bride
